Sam's room is also referred to as 'the Village library,' as the classroom walls are lined with bookshelves filled with class sets of novels, plays, and works of non-fiction, as well as an vast array of texts on history, art, and writing.
The shelves are decorated with student artifacts, personal remembrances, and pop culture knick knacks. Instead of desks, students sit around a table Socratic-seminar style. Truly, it a classroom like no other.
Sam is a master lecturer and students love hearing engaging narratives about American history that they likely have never heard before. To complement his lessons, clips of documentaries and feature films are used as compelling visuals to help tell the story of this nation's complex history.
On the walls hang flags, maps, and newspaper clippings that speak to the many electives Sam teaches each year.
